give unto

15 That’s when the Pharisees plotted a way to trap him into saying something damaging. 16 They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod’s followers mixed in, to ask, “Teacher, we know you have integrity, teach the way of God accurately, are indifferent to popular opinion, and don’t pander to your students. 17 So tell us honestly:Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
18 Jesus knew they were up to no good. He said, “Why are you playing these games with me? Why are you trying to trap me? 19 Do you have a coin? Let me see it.” They handed him a silver piece.
20 “This engraving––who does it look like? And whose name is on it?”
21 They said, “Caesar.”
“Then give Caesar what is his, and give God what is his.”
22 The Pharisees were speechless. They went off shaking their heads.

Matthew 22:15-22 (Message)

Today I worked the help desk at my first provincial election. I was

By doing so, I was serving my community, and my province.

Deeper still, by doing so I was able to serve many of the neighbors I didn’t know, and several whom I did know.

God values both.

Since people desire government & structure (see Israel after being set free from Egypt), God has used His people who have gifts that would bless the greater body to serve them. Administration, helps, mercy.

You see, God honored humanity’s choice, and as a result, we have rulers & elected officials who govern over us. We are subject to the rules and regulations they decide upon, and as such owe them their due: such as taxes, following the speed limit, behaving as a honest citizen.

Yet, God intended and intends for God alone to rule.

So ultimately, His rule is the one we are to obey at all times.
When they align, there is no tension.

However, when conflict arises, we are to default to God’s ways. Always.

So today, I served my neighbors with practical help.
And served my King by doing so with a humble servant heart.

Giving to God what He is due, everything, is of more value than just doing what is right because we may suffer the consequences if we don’t.

The heart of the matter is following where He leads, and giving Him all He is due, all the time.

Give to the government what it is entitled to.
Give God everything, as He is entitled to it all as the Ruler of all, and as such is worthy of our worship, our devotion, our all.
